Emily Avnell is a proud member of the CPSN support worker team and has been with us for over seven years!
She is experienced with assisting with personal care and complex needs including non-verbal clients. She enjoys collaborating with them, by helping them maintain and retain their independence, supporting them to live their best lives, by helping them to go out in the community and participate in activities.
Emily began her career in support work in 2012 after completing her CERT III in individual support and worked in a New South Wales aged care facility. After seven years she moved to Melbourne and began supporting a CPSN client, and this was her first introduction to working in the disability sector.
Emily always ensures that the clients she supports can maintain their independence and are receiving the appropriate care that they deserve and that they are being heard. It is an integral part of support work, to really understand how each client communicates, and she can adjust her communication styles accordingly to fit their needs.

“I’m a caring person and I love helping people to maintain their independence. I can work autonomously and as part of a team.”
CPSN has been instrumental in ensuring that all and any of Emily’s issues or concerns are heard, and that she also feels happy and supported. She likes that CPSN provides her with regular ongoing workplace training so that she feels safe. Currently Emily says the disability support ecosystem lacks support for those transitioning from young adulthood to Adulthood.
“There are not enough social activities for people with complex needs and they miss out on socializing with others which affects their overall mental health.”
Medical and social support is also lacking, particularly for clients with complex needs. Allied Health specialists are often hard to find and have long wait lists.
Emily enjoys her work with CPSN and is happy to support our clients. We hope that she continues to do her best work with us and our wonderful client for many more years to come.
We know how difficult it can be to find quality support workers with whom you have a genuine connection. Emily has the capacity to provide support to new clients at weekends, if you’d like to arrange to meet with Emily and discuss your support needs further, we’re here to help.
