Meet Rehan
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Rehan and I love listening to music all day long. I am a student at the Glenroy Specialist School where I enjoy going with my school friends, that is, if I am not lazy and skip school (which I love doing). My Mum and Dad are my favourite people in the world and I love when they cuddle me when I am not well, actually, they cuddle me all the time. I love to travel and explore new places. I do not
like loud noises and it makes me uncomfortable.
I also enjoy watching cartoons and my favourite superhero is Superman. I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when I was about 2 years old but I feel blessed to be in Australia where people understand my needs, the need for speed (yeah right!).
What are your interests?
I love getting my hands dirty in mud, in food, in whatever I can get my hands dirty in. I love spending time on the floor and stretching. I am definitely not a person who likes sweets – my father is to blame for that as he is not a big fan either. I love to eat pasta and sleep during the day and party all night – yes, my parents are reluctant partiers.
What is your greatest achievement, or the thing you are most proud of about yourself?
I am a fighter! I refuse to give up. The thing I am most proud of about myself would be my willingness and ability to smile through my troubles.
What is the most important thing people should know about you?
I cannot see, if I could, I would be sad to see the world in so much pain. I cannot speak, if I could, I would speak for the rights of people with disabilities. I cannot walk, if I could, I would walk miles to bring water to people who are elderly and disabled. I CAN feel, and that is why I can feel love and warmth form a distance. My father always whispers in my ears these words from Christopher McCandless: “It is important in life not to be strong, but to feel strong, to measure yourself at least once. If you want something in life, reach out and grab it.”
