Race Running launch event in Victoria
Now an international athletic sport, Race Running, gives disabled people who otherwise can only get around in an wheelchair, or in a walker, the ability to move by themselves. With a RaceRunner people with significant disabilities can experience the feeling of running.
The Victorian launch event of Race Running Australia at Albert Park on Monday 19 November offered many the opportunity to try the Race Running bikes and to learn about the benefits for social participation and health, CPSN are proud to be a Victorian partner in the sport.
Founder and Occupational Therapist and Paralympic athlete, Connie Hanson spoke about how the mobility level of users can be greatly enhanced.
‘It may be hard to believe, but people who previously were not able to walk by their own force, have been able to complete half- and full marathons using the running bikes.
‘The walkers and running bikes stimulates the 5 systems: central nerve, cardio-vascular and muscles as well as the senses and the hormones. Combined with the social context the products can be used in, the walkers and running bikes can give a significant boost to personal development.
‘The experience of being able to do the same kind of things as non disabled people – go for a jog, take the dog for a walk, do a recreational race – helps individuals share in common interest with others, and helps individuals be a part of society,’ Connie said.
