National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing support and assistance to individuals with a disability and their family. It takes a lifetime approach, giving individuals the assistance they need early on so they can build their capacity for later in life.
The NDIS helps individuals with funding to access the services and supports they need from the providers and informal supports of their choice.
More information about the NDIS and the National Disability Agency (NDIA) is available here.
The NDIS is being rolled out across Australia and should be complete in 2019. To see when the NDIS will commence in your area (within Victoria) please check the NDIS website.
All of CPSN’s services can be funded under the NDIS. To make sure your plan covers the cost of these programs make sure you can show how the aims and outcomes of each service meets your goals and discuss this during your NDIS planning meeting and any plan reviews.
The CPSN also have two dedicated services to assist you with the NDIS. These are:
- Pre-planning Services - small group pre-planning sessions so you can get information and ideas, relevant to your life.
- Support Coordination - linking you in with formal and informal supports to achieve your plan goals.
Your Rights under the NDIS
It is important to know your rights in relation to your transitioning onto the NDIS and accessing the scheme. NDIS Rights contains a number of factsheets that outline your legal rights.
